Benecaster Account Security
Your account at benecaster.com/my-account/ holds your plan, your billing and your connected sites. Its email address is both how you sign in and where every billing email goes, so changing that address is protected: it needs a recent sign-in, and both your current and your new inbox take part.
This page is about your benecaster.com account. For protecting your own WordPress site, see Backup and Security Best Practices. The email address on your WordPress user is a separate thing, changed under The Account Panel → My Profile.
Signing In
Sign in to My Account with your password, or press Email me a sign-in link to have a one-time link sent to your account email. The link opens a Finish signing in page: press Sign me in there to finish. That second press keeps email security scanners, which open links automatically, from using your link before you do. The link works once and expires 15 minutes after it is sent. If you have never set a password, the sign-in link is all you need, including for changing your email address below.
Changing Your Account Email
What you need
- A sign-in within the last 15 minutes, with your password or an emailed sign-in link. Having been signed in for a while is not enough, so a computer left signed in cannot be used to move your account.
- Access to both inboxes. The new address confirms the change, and your current address is told about it and can cancel it.
How to change it
- Sign in to My Account.
- Open the Your account tab. In Your details, find Change your email address, beneath the name and billing address.
- Type the new address into New email address and press Change email.
- Open the email sent to the new address, Confirm your new Benecaster email address, and follow its link.
- On the page that opens, press Confirm the new address. Opening the link on its own changes nothing.
You don’t need to be signed in for steps 4 and 5, so you can confirm from whichever device reads the new inbox.
If your sign-in is more than 15 minutes old, step 3 shows “For your security, please sign in again before changing your email address. Then come back here and try again.” with a Sign in again link. The link signs you out and returns you to the sign-in screen. Sign in with your password or a sign-in link, then go back to Change your email address and submit it again.
What to expect
- Nothing changes until the new address confirms. Until then you sign in, and receive billing emails, at your current address.
- Your current address is told first. It receives Your Benecaster email address is being changed, naming both addresses, with a Cancel this change link, before anything is sent to the new address. If your current address can’t be reached, no change is made.
- Your details shows the waiting change: the address it is waiting on, and when the request expires.
- The confirmation link works once and expires after 24 hours. If you ask again with a different address, the new request replaces the earlier one and the earlier links stop working.
- Once you confirm, the change is immediate. Sign in with the new address from then on; your billing emails go there too. Your previous address receives one last email, Your Benecaster email address has been changed.
- A sign-in link already sent to your previous address stops working once the change completes.
If the request is refused
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| “That address cannot be used for this account. Please choose a different one.” | Choose a different address. |
| “That is already the email address on your account.” | Nothing to change; check you typed the new address. |
| “We could not reach your current email address, so your email could not be changed. Nothing was changed. Please contact support at support@benecaster.com and we will help.” | Email support@benecaster.com. Trying again won’t help: the change needs your current address to be told first. |
| “We could not send the confirmation email just now. Nothing was changed. Please try again in a moment.” | Wait a moment and press Change email again. |
| “Too many requests. Please wait an hour and try again.” | You have asked several times within the hour. Wait, then try once more. |
If the confirmation link doesn’t work
The page the link opens says what happened:
- That link has stopped working. It expired, was already used, or a newer request replaced it. Nothing about your account has changed. Sign in and ask again.
- We could not finish the change just now. Nothing has changed yet. Use the link in the email again in a few minutes; it keeps working until it expires.
- That address cannot be used. The new address became unavailable before you confirmed. Nothing has changed; sign in and ask again with a different address.
- We could not finish the change. Your account still uses its previous address. Email support@benecaster.com and we will sort it out.
If You Didn’t Ask for the Change
If Your Benecaster email address is being changed arrives and you didn’t ask for it, somebody else may be able to sign in to your account. Act before the new address confirms:
- Press Cancel this change in the email.
- On the page it opens, press the Cancel this change button. Opening the link on its own does nothing.
- Email support@benecaster.com so we can check your account with you.
Cancelling drops the request, so your account keeps its current address. Everyone signed in to your account is signed out on every device, you included, and our team is alerted to look for anything else wrong. Sign back in when you are ready.
The cancel link stops working when the request ends: once the change is confirmed, or after 24 hours. If Your Benecaster email address has been changed arrives and you didn’t make the change, there is nothing in that email to undo it. Email support@benecaster.com straight away.
