Deactivating Your Site Connection

Deactivating a show’s connection revokes the license token for that show and removes the link between it and your Benecaster account.

How to Disconnect

From the site itself

  1. Go to Settings → Shows → [Show] → Settings → Subscription.
  2. Click Deactivate this show’s license.
  3. Confirm when prompted.

The token is revoked on benecaster.com and cleared from your WordPress install. The show returns to unlicensed state.

From your Benecaster account

You can also disconnect a site without touching that site at all:

  1. Sign in at benecaster.com/my-account/.
  2. Open the Shows & add-ons tab and find Connected shows.
  3. Click Disconnect on the row you want, and confirm — the dialog names the exact site address.

Use this route when you can’t reach the site — it’s been deleted, sold, moved, or you’ve lost admin access. The slot on your plan frees immediately.

You can disconnect staging sites here too. A staging site that benecaster.com recognises as staging, or that support has marked, never counted toward your site limit, so disconnecting it frees nothing but clears it off the list. A site in staging mode at an address benecaster.com doesn’t recognise does use a slot, and disconnecting it frees one — see Staging Site Counted Against Your Show Limit.

The same Disconnect control also appears on the connect screen when you’re at your site limit, so you can free a slot mid-connection. See The Account Panel.

What Deactivating Does

  • Stops subscriber delivery for this show, immediately. Every subscriber feed URL returns an error until you reconnect — there is no cron run, cache flush or delay in between. The audio stops too: episodes already sitting in your subscribers’ podcast apps stop downloading, not just new ones. Your public feed and your follower feeds keep working normally.
  • Revokes the license token — the connection can no longer be used to validate this show.
  • Clears the local per-show token — Benecaster treats the show as unconnected.
  • Switches off paid add-ons for this show. Add-ons follow the license a show is connected to, so a disconnected show has none, whatever your plan includes. Its add-on on/off choices are cleared too, so after you reconnect, check Settings → Add-ons for any you had switched off. Other connected shows on the same site keep theirs.

What It Doesn’t Do

It’s still your data.

  • Does not delete subscriber data — your subscriber records, feed tokens, and history remain intact. Intact does not mean working: the tokens survive deactivation and stop delivering until you reconnect.
  • Does not affect other shows — each show’s connection is independent.

Episodes your subscribers already downloaded stay on their devices. What stops is fetching anything new — including audio for episodes their app is already showing them.

Deactivate a show that is actively serving subscribers and they will notice that afternoon. If you are disconnecting to free a slot or move a site, reconnect promptly; delivery resumes on the next request, on the same feed URLs, with nothing for your subscribers to do.

Reconnecting After a Disconnect

To reconnect, open Settings → Shows → [Show] → Settings → Subscription and click Connect to Benecaster. This starts a fresh connection and issues a new token. See Connecting Your Site to Benecaster →
