Supported Podcast Apps

Benecaster generates standard RSS 2.0 feeds with full iTunes namespace compliance. Any podcast app that supports subscribing by URL will work with a Benecaster private feed. The apps below are tested and known to work correctly.

Tested and Supported

Custom URL — the app supports subscribing to a feed by pasting a URL directly.
QR Code — the app can scan a QR code to add a feed.
Deep Link — the subscriber account page includes a one-tap link that opens this app with the feed URL pre-filled.

Spotify

Private feeds: Benecaster private feeds do not work with Spotify. Spotify crawls and caches podcast feeds centrally using its own infrastructure — it does not pass subscriber-specific URLs or tokens to individual listeners. This is a fundamental limitation of how Spotify works, not something that can be configured around. It applies to all private podcast platforms, not just Benecaster.

Public feeds: Your show’s public RSS feed (the free tier, or a separate public feed) can be submitted to Spotify’s directory through Spotify for Podcasters as normal. Those episodes will be available to anyone on Spotify.

What to tell subscribers: Any subscriber who primarily listens on Spotify will need to use a different app for your private feed. Mentioning this in your welcome email or migration communications avoids confusion — “Your private feed works in Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Pocket Casts, and most other podcast apps, but not in Spotify.”

Amazon Music and YouTube Music

Amazon Music and YouTube Music are music-first platforms that carry some podcasts but do not support adding a private RSS feed URL. Public feeds may be submitted through their respective creator programs, but private subscriber feeds are not compatible — same reason as Spotify.

Apps Not Listed

Any podcast app that supports “add by URL,” “custom RSS,” or “private feed” should work with Benecaster. The app list above reflects explicitly tested integrations. If you use an app not listed here, try adding your feed URL manually — if the app supports custom RSS URLs it will almost certainly work.

If you find an app that does not work with Benecaster feeds, contact support with details. Compatibility issues are usually caused by the app not following standard RSS 2.0 or iTunes namespace conventions.

Podcast Directory Submissions

Private Benecaster feeds cannot be submitted to podcast directories (Apple Podcasts directory, Spotify, Podchaser, etc.) — they require authentication and return different content per subscriber, which directories are not designed to index.

If you want your show listed in directories as well as available to private subscribers, publish a separate public feed for the free episodes and submit that. Benecaster can generate both a public feed and private subscriber feeds from the same show.
