Buy-ups — Subscriber Self-Service

Subscribers manage their buy-up add-ons from the Add-ons section of the subscriber account page. This section only appears when at least one active buy-up is defined for the show and the subscriber is on an eligible tier.

Viewing Available Add-ons

Each available buy-up is shown as a card with the name, description (if any), and monthly price. Cards the subscriber already owns show an Active badge. Cards that have reached their subscriber cap show a Sold out notice instead of a purchase button.

Purchasing a Buy-up

The subscriber clicks Add on any card they don’t yet hold. Benecaster adds the buy-up as an additional line item to the subscriber’s existing Stripe subscription — there is no second checkout flow or separate card entry. The charge is prorated for the current billing period and appears on the subscriber’s next invoice.

Feed access updates automatically as soon as the Stripe subscription is updated. The subscriber does not need to refresh their token.

Managing an Active Buy-up

On an active buy-up card, the subscriber can:

  • Cancel — schedules cancellation at the end of the current billing period. The subscriber retains access until then, and the card shows “Cancels on [date]” for the remainder of that period
  • Reactivate — if the subscriber cancelled but the period has not yet ended, they can reactivate before the cancellation date to keep the buy-up active without re-purchasing

Sold-out State

When a buy-up’s subscriber cap has been reached, new purchases are blocked. The card shows “Sold out” to subscribers who don’t yet hold a grant. Subscribers who already hold an active grant are not affected and continue to have access.

If the admin raises the cap or removes it, the sold-out state clears automatically.
