Two limits. Two different things. You choose how each one is handled.
Every plan has two independent limits.
Paying subscriber limit — only subscribers on paid tiers count toward this. Free-tier listeners do not. This is the threshold that drives plan upgrades.
Total token cap — all active RSS feed tokens combined: paying subscribers, free-tier listeners, everyone. This exists because a large free listener base generates the same platform load as a paid one.
In practice: on Launch, you could have 8 paying subscribers and 200 free-tier listeners (208 total tokens) and be well within both limits. A podcaster with 2 paying subscribers and 400 free-tier listeners would hit the 250-token cap first.
At 80% of either limit, Benecaster shows an upgrade prompt.
What happens when you exceed a limit — your choice:
You set an enforcement preference for each limit during onboarding (changeable any time in Settings → Account):
- Auto-upgrade (default for paying subscribers): if you stay above the limit for two consecutive calendar months, Benecaster schedules an upgrade automatically with advance warning. Annual plans are evaluated monthly — you’re not waiting a year.
- Cap (default for total tokens): over-limit subscribers still receive a feed, but it serves your public episode content rather than private subscriber content. When you upgrade, private access restores automatically — no RSS URL change needed.
