benecaster_follower_tier_slug

Filter Free Since v1.0.0

Filters the tier slug written to the token record when a follower signs up through the `[benecaster_follower_signup]` shortcode. The default slug `’follower’` is intentionally distinct from any membership bridge tier slug — this prevents follower tokens from being matched against bridge mappings and counted as paying subscribers.

The most common use on multi-show sites is returning a per-show slug so that episode availability rules can target followers of a specific show. For example, returning `’my-show-follower’` allows availability settings to reference followers on that show without affecting follower tokens on other shows.

Parameters

Name Type Default Description
$tier_slug string Tier slug assigned to follower tokens; default 'follower'
$show_id int ID of the show

Returns: string

Examples

Rename follower tier to listener

add_filter( 'benecaster_follower_tier_slug', function ( string $tier_slug, int $show_id ): string {
    return 'listener';
}, 10, 2 );

Per-show follower tier slug for multi-show site

add_filter( 'benecaster_follower_tier_slug', function ( string $tier_slug, int $show_id ): string {
    $show = get_post( $show_id );
    return $show ? $show->post_name . '-follower' : $tier_slug;
}, 10, 2 );

Notes

The returned slug must not match any value in the bridge tier mapping table. A collision would cause follower tokens to be counted in the paying subscriber total, affecting plan limit calculations. Always use a suffix — such as -follower — that cannot be produced by a membership plugin tier mapping.

Affects
