benecaster_subscriber_tier_overridden

Action Premium

Fires when an admin manually overrides a subscriber’s tier via the Subscriber detail panel in the dashboard. The token record has already been updated to reflect the new tier at the point this hook fires.

Distinct from benecaster_subscription_tier_changed, which fires when a bridge detects an automatic tier change through the normal subscription lifecycle. Use benecaster_subscriber_tier_overridden when you only want to react to admin-initiated manual overrides, not to routine bridge-driven tier changes.

Parameters

Name Type Default Description
$user_id int WordPress user ID
$show_id int ID of the show
$old_tier string Previous tier slug
$new_tier string New tier slug

Examples

Sync tier override to CRM for audit purposes

add_action( 'benecaster_subscriber_tier_overridden', function (
    int    $user_id,
    int    $show_id,
    string $old_tier,
    string $new_tier
): void {
    $user = get_userdata( $user_id );
    if ( ! $user ) {
        return;
    }

    my_crm_log_event( $user->user_email, 'tier_override', [
        'show_id'  => $show_id,
        'from'     => $old_tier,
        'to'       => $new_tier,
        'actor'    => 'admin',
        'at'       => gmdate( 'Y-m-d\TH:i:s\Z' ),
    ] );
}, 10, 4 );

Notes

The override changes the tier stored in the Benecaster token record. It does not modify the underlying membership plugin — the bridge's view of the subscriber is unchanged. If the subscriber's membership plugin record and their Benecaster tier diverge, the next bridge sync may reset the token tier back to the bridge's value. Use admin overrides for short-term adjustments (such as complimentary upgrades) and track them in an external system if permanent divergence is needed.
